WildLaw's Brett Paben Selected for Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee

February 27, 2007.  WildLaw Senior Staff Attorney Brett Paben was appointed by U.S. Forest Service Chief Gail Kimbell to the Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee (RAC).  This 11-member committee will provide recommendations on recreation fee proposals on federal lands managed by the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

This new Recreation RAC is a Federal Advisory Committee, authorized by the Federal Land Recreation Enhancement Act, enacted by Congress in 2004.  Specific duties of the RAC include providing recommendations on implementing or eliminating standard amenity fees, expanded amenity fees, non-commercial individual special recreation permit fees, expanding or limiting the recreation fee program, and fee level changes.

Brett is the only representative of environmental groups on this 11-member committee.
