Field & Statute publishes explanatory reporting on United States environmental law and the public decisions that affect land, water, wildlife, and communities.

Sources and review

We use primary official sources whenever they are available, including statutes, regulations, court decisions, agency records, and notices in the Federal Register. Legal guides identify their jurisdiction, publication date, update date, and the date on which their sources were last checked.

Historical material is treated as evidence of what a page or organization said at the time. It is not presented as proof of an underlying event when the primary record is unavailable. We distinguish current rules from historical records and state material uncertainty.

Independence

Field & Statute is independent from the organizations and individuals discussed in its coverage. It does not offer legal representation or individual legal advice. The publication does not accept sponsored content for law firms, personal-injury services, insurance, casinos, or pharmaceutical products.

Corrections

When a factual error is confirmed, we correct the page and update its modification date. When sources are rechecked, we also update the sources-accessed date. Readers can report a possible error through the contact page. Please identify the page, the passage at issue, and the primary source that supports the correction.
